Last night at the Showstoppers event in Las Vegas we got some hands-on time with a unique new accessory. The clever Siso Tablo from a company called Hantech consists of a digital pen and a receiver you can attach to the top of your notebook (via a magnet), enabling users to turn their netbook or laptop (from 7 to 15.4 inches into a Tablet PC. The device could be used for taking notes, drawing, handwriting recognition, and even games. You can also clip the receiver to any piece of paper to capture what you write.
It wasnt all that easy to switch from stylus to pen mode, as you have to use a special tool to remove the tip, but we appreciate the versatility of this device. And the low price. It costs only $99.
After calibrating the device on screen, the Tablo offered pretty good accuracy, even when we hovered an inch away from the display. What you dont get is pressure sensitivty, although the company claims Tablo is intelligent to approximate that by how quickly you make your pen movements.
